Megan Rodgers: USA
Megan graduated with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she started the long process of systematically organizing thousands of her dreams into DREAM CATALOGUE. This record of her unconscious mind has provided years of fodder for artwork exploring unusual materials in a wide variety of experimental forms from tiny library books to woven paper images to baby bodysuits to jack-in-the-box houses.
“Evidence of Vice: Coffee & Chocolate, Wine & Cigarettes Series: Everything in this project should have been thrown in the trash. The coffee pods, chocolate wrappers, wine corks, and cigarette stubs started out as identical factory products, but through consumption, each piece has been transformed into something unique. That transformation requires fire, water, handling, and time. Framed in a new context, the trash, like the vices themselves, can also be virtuous and beautiful.”
Megan’s passion for unpacking ideas through the arts fueled her early work in the theatre and continues to drive her to create new work. She thrives on contact with viewers and has sought to include viewers' experiences in her work. She has organized numerous exhibitions and art events in and around Chicago and, since 2005, in the Basel area.
