Sofia Georgakopoulou: Greece
Sofia Georgakopoulou is a scientist and a photographer born in Greece. She started photographing using BW film in 1994 and moved to digital photography and digital montages from 2003 on.
She spent her adulthood between Basel, Athens, Hamburg and Amsterdam and takes every chance to travel around the world. Her influences come from the colours of the Aegean Sea, the vibrant city life of Athens and Amsterdam and the strong antitheses of the Swiss mountainous landscapes. Like the changing experiences in her life, her work reflects the unsettledness and the deep power of everyday life. Photographically, this exploration is translated to images that probe further than the surface. The ultimate aim is to alter the obvious with an infusion of sentiment and illusion.
Currently, Sofia lives in Switzerland, where she continues to transform her photographic canvas with new ideas.
