For Karima Duchamp, it was a special feeling when she heard about the global lockdown in 2020. To withdraw, to her studio at home. Searching for chaos, searching for stories of solitudes, conglomerations, liquefactions, forms that come together and repel each other, bodies that are not anatomically constituted, out of time. Then, reading Marcel Proust's "In Search of Lost Time" feeds her imagination and activates new worlds and new dimensions in her perception of the world. The colors, the sensations, the words, this time and the memory that constituted her present and that she had to occupy differently, since everything had changed. Painting has become obsessive.
These paintings are silent spaces, where bodies are simplified forms; like sculptures, they are part of "arches series" paintings. "Anchorage. Anchor the bridge. Digging to ensure solid foundations for the structure". Maylis de Kerangal, Naissance d’un pont.
